How to get the Sunken Rod in Fisch
Every rod has a silver line.
Not sure how to get the Sunken Rod in Fisch? This entirely unique catcher is great for reeling in a very specific item. But you’ll need to get luck with said item itself to net it.
Used to reel in treasure maps more reliably, the Fisch Sunken Rod is a particularly niche bit of equipment that’s seldom used to catch the game’s namesake. Instead, it serves a particular purpose both for lucky newcomers and determined veterans.
How to get the Sunken Rod
The only way to get the Sunken Rod in Fisch is through Treasure Maps.
With a rough 0.6% to reel in a treasure map with your regular catch, then netting the rod with a 1.6% drop chance is a particularly grueling voluntary Fisch grind.
Though the rod itself will boost your chance of finding a treasure map, there’s no way to boost it when it really matters—when you still need said rod.
What does the Sunken Rod do in Fisch?
Though classed as a tier-6 rod in the Fisch community, putting it just above name stays like the Mythical Rod, Kings Rod, and Crystalized Rod, the Sunken Rod is primarily used to speed up the acquisition of subsequent treasure maps thanks to its unique ability.
The Sunken Rod has a 25% chance to reel in another treasure map after every 10th catch. That’s on top of its 5% chance to apply the Sunken mutation, which increases the value of fish caught by 4x.
Is the Sunken Rod worth it?
It’s a catch-22 moment. Getting the Sunken Rod means grinding the very feature it ultimately makes easier. But with little reward left in treasure maps beyond it, its boon is almost without reason.
But not entirely. Beyond being a great rod for any newcomer to happen upon, with the resulting deluge of treasure maps offering to supply said player with a boost to their riches and a mutation effect sitting somewhere between the Trident Rod and Mythical Rod in terms of revenue potential, the Sunken Rods unique ability can speed up the path to top-tier rods like the Lost Rod, Celestial Rod, Rod of the Eternal King, and Rod of the Forgotten Fang.
That’s because the materials needed to craft the rods, Ancient Thread and Lunar Thread, are rare drops from treasure chests at 9.5% and 3% respectively. That means newcomers will either accidentally happen upon a way to farm for some of the game’s most valuable materials (which can be traded to high-tier players for a premium) or those hunting for said materials will suddenly gain a way to more easily obtain them.
As such, the additional of the Sunken Rod to treasure maps turns one of the game’s less necessary mechanics into something actively worth engaging in. Whether you’re looking to strike a goldmine with rare crafting materials or need said materials to complete your collection, coming across the Sunken Rod should serve to reduce the grind of either task.
If obtained early in the game, the Sunken Rod’s high Lure and Luck stats among others make it incredibly worthwhile, ultimately saving the player a lot of time and money versus grinding for the Trident Rod and others below its tier.
What’s the best enchant for the Sunken Rod?
If your focus with the Sunken Rod is its treasure map ability, Hasty will always be the best Sunken Rod enchantment.
If you’ve come across it before obtaining something like the Trident Rod, however, you’ll want to rely on its mutation effect, making Abyssal or Hasty similarly attractive propositions.
