Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom breaks Nintendo records with 10m sales in 3 days
It’s the fastest-selling Nintendo game for any system in Europe and the Americas
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the fastest-selling game in the history of the franchise, according to Nintendo.
The title sold 10 million units worldwide in the first three days following its May 12 release, the platform holder said on Wednesday.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is also the fastest-selling Nintendo game for any system in Europe and the Americas.

“In its seventh year, Nintendo Switch momentum continues strongly, as this record-breaking launch shows,” said Nintendo of Europe president Stephan Bole. “We’re so grateful for the support of fans for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and are truly looking forward to seeing their adventures and creations as they journey into Hyrule.”
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom made a fast start at UK retail, comfortably achieving the biggest boxed launch of any game in 2023.
According to figures from market research firm GfK, the title sold 54% higher than Hogwarts Legacy, the best-selling game of the year so far.
VGC’s The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom review called the title “easily one of the very best games on Nintendo Switch”.
Other critics heaped praise on the game in their write-ups too, with most agreeing it’s a worthy sequel to one of the generation’s best games and one of the long-running franchise’s high points.
The Legend of Zelda series launched in 1986 and has sold over 130 million units worldwide, according to Nintendo.
