Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a new 2D adventure starring the Princess
The new instalment will release for Switch in September
Nintendo has announced a brand new 2D Zelda game, Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
Announced during a Nintendo Direct on Tuesday, the game sports a similar art style to 2019’s Link’s Awakening remake, and has Princess Zelda take on the main role.
Zelda can use a new item, the Tri Rod, to duplicate objects she finds in the game world, such as tables and boxes in order to reach new areas, or enemies to fight alongside her.
“We’ve created a game in which each player’s experience will be different,” said series producer Eiji Aonuma.
“It’s up to Zelda and her wisdom to save the kingdom of Hyrule in a brand-new story in The Legend of Zelda series,” Nintendo added in its official synopsis. “The people of Hyrule are being stolen away by strange rifts that have appeared, with a certain swordsman among the missing.
“Team up with the mysterious fairy, Tri, and use the power of the Tri Rod to create echoes – imitations of things found in the environment. Then recreate those echoes whenever you like to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.
“Use echoes of water blocks to reach new heights, make bridges out of old beds, throw rocks at foes – or find your own creative combination of echoes to do things your way. You can even create echoes of monsters to fight at your side in combat.”
Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will release on September 26, alongside a new Zelda edition Nintendo Switch Lite console.
