Zelda: Breath of the Wild studio continues recruitment drive

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild co-developer Monolith Soft continues to recruit for a new instalment in the series.

According to a translation of a post on the Japanese studio’s website, Monolith Soft is seeking a character modeler, concept art designer, scenario planner and map modeler for a new Zelda game, likely Breath of the Wild 2.

Nintendo-owned Monolith has expanded significantly in recent years, with a new Tokyo studio opening in 2019 to take the company’s total locations to three, with some 220 staff across each.

In recent years the studio has contributed to the creation of not just Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but also Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Monolith is also known for its Xenoblade RPG series.

In addition to the new Zelda title, Monolith is currently working on Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch.

Breath of the Wild 2 was announced at E3 2019.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was announced for Switch via a trailer shown during the Nintendo Direct E3 2019 broadcast. The video featured Link and Zelda together, although no further details were announced.

In subsequent media interviews Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma wouldn’t be drawn on whether Zelda might be a playable character in the game, or if the title will support co-op.

“It’s kind of interesting that you bring that up,” he told IGN, “because in Breath of the Wild, you see Zelda and Link together often too, so to go straight into the thought of co-op is very interesting to me.”

He also told Kotaku he “can’t say” how many playable characters the game will feature.

Aonuma confirmed in June that Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi has retained the role on the sequel.

Nintendo recently shared behind-the-scenes images of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’s reveal trailer.
