Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair announced
Playtonic’s new game will be a platforming adventure hybrid
Independent developer Playtonic Games has announced its second game, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair.
The follow-up to the studio’s debut release, 2017’s Yooka-Laylee, Impossible Lair is a “platforming adventure hybrid” set to be published by Team17 on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2019.
“Yooka and Laylee must combine their abilities to take on a series of challenging and vibrant 2.5D levels, and explore and solve puzzles in a beautiful 3D overworld,” reads the official announcement.
“It’s on them to rescue Queen Phoebee’s Royal Beettalion Guard from each level, as they size up Capital B’s most dastardly challenge yet – the Impossible Lair,” it adds.
A reveal trailer for the game can be viewed above, while more information about the title is due to be announced during E3 week, according to Playtonic.
The Burton upon Trent, UK-based studio was established by Rare veterans in 2014. It raised over £2 million through Kickstarter for its first project Yooka-Laylee, a spiritual successor to Rare’s Banjo-Kazooie.
The title released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC in April 2017, before launching on Switch in November of the same year. In November 2018, Playtonic said the game had hit the one million player milestone.
