Xbox’s Sea of Thieves has topped PlayStation 5 digital pre-order charts
Microsoft’s decision to make it multi-format may literally pay off
Sea of Thieves is currently the top of the pre-order charts on numerous PlayStation 5 digital storefronts.
As initially noted on X by games industry data reporter Benji-Sales, the Premium Edition of the game currently has the number one slot on the PS5 console store’s Pre-Orders page in the US, when sorted by ‘best-selling’.
The Standard Edition is also in the top ten, sitting in fifth.
This means the game is currently being pre-ordered more times in the US than MLB The Show 24, Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and Rise of the Ronin.
VGC can confirm that the situation is similar on the UK store, if not better.
The UK’s current pre-order Top 10 on the PS5 console store has the Premium Edition of Sea of Thieves at number one, as well as the Standard Edition at number four and the Deluxe Edition at number ten.
Last month Xbox announced plans to release four of its Xbox and PC exclusives on other consoles.
Pentiment was the first of the four games to be released, and is now available on PS5, Switch and PS4.
This will be followed by Hi-Fi Rush, which is set to be released on PS5 on March 19.
Third is Obsidian‘s co-op survival adventure Grounded, which will be released on PS5, PS4 and Switch on April 16, with cross-play supported across all formats.
Finally, Sea of Thieves will set sail on PS5 on April 30, and will also include cross-play support to enable new players to interact with the existing Xbox and PC players.
