Xbox’s InXile will release a team-based VR shooter this year
Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds coming to Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index
Xbox studio InXile Entertainment has announced a multiplayer VR shooter called Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds.
The game will be published this year by Tokyo-based Thirdverse for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index.
Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds sees two teams of 10 battling for control of an abandoned air force base in Antarctica across several PvP modes, while also having to fend off an otherworldly biomechanical threat.
An upcoming open beta will let players get hands on with Frostpoint’s arsenal, which includes over a dozen guns, grenades, health kits, turrets, armour and tracking upgrades.
Thirdverse co-founder Kiyoshi Shin said: “The world in Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds is vast, while the action is dense. We want players to be challenged to experiment and find the right combinations of gear and weapons to survive and level up their skills to be effective in this punishing yet highly enjoyable game.”
inXile was founded in 2002 by Interplay co-founder Brian Fargo and acquired by Microsoft in 2018.
The studio is scheduled to release its delayed strategy sequel Wasteland 3 on August 28 for Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4 and Xbox One.
Its first game created entirely as a first-party Xbox studio will be “a next-gen RPG” developed with Unreal Engine 5.
