Xbox owners can play Resident Evil 4 right now by changing settings

Xbox owners can now play Resident Evil 4 ahead of its official Friday release date, by changing their region to New Zealand.

As it’s now March 24 in the region, New Zealand players are able to download and play Capcom’s much-anticipated remake – and users outside of the country can join in thanks to the popular settings trick.

  • Sign in to your Xbox console.
  • Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  • Select Settings  > All Settings  > System > Language & location.
  • Select your new location from the Location list, and then select Restart now.

Although Microsoft notes that not all content will be transferable between regions, many users have already reported that their pre-ordered copies of Resident Evil 4 worked when changing to the New Zealand region.

In VGC’s Resident Evil 4 remake review, our critic called it “a safe, yet undeniably modernised take on arguably the series’ greatest instalment”.

“The Capcom dev team’s commitment to authenticity is a testament to the enduring quality of Shinji Mikami’s original masterpiece, which is still tremendous and now feels thoroughly modern thanks to some subtle but smart evolutions.

“Those expecting surprising Final Fantasy 7 Remake-style deviations from the original template should keep their expectations in check because, in comparison, Capcom’s game feels like a more safe reinterpretation. But when the original game still stands up so well, that’s far from a bad thing.”
