Xbox One tops Black Friday UK console sales
Console far outsold PS4, but was only just ahead of Nintendo Switch
Xbox One was the top-selling console in the UK during Black Friday week.
Microsoft sold 100,000 consoles during the period, driven by steep price reductions which saw the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition drop to as low as £110 at major retailer Tesco.
Xbox One was “just a handful” of sales ahead of the Switch family of consoles, although Nintendo’s platform generated more revenue due to higher prices, retailers told GamesIndustry.biz.
Black Friday discounts saw the Switch Lite cut to £179.99, while the flagship version of the console could be purchased with game such as Pokémon Sword for £279.
PS4 was also less aggressively discounted than Xbox One, with several retailers offering Sony’s console bundled with the likes of FIFA 20 or Modern Warfare for £199.
Sales of Sony’s console reportedly totalled 60,000 units during Black Friday week.
FIFA 20 beat Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to reclaim the top spot on the UK all formats chart as 1.3 million physical games were sold during the Black Friday period.
While it placed third in terms of consoles shifted, PS4 enjoyed the most game sales. Just under 500,000 PS4 titles were sold at UK retail last week, ahead of Xbox One with 413,112 games sold and Switch with 361,967 games sold.
