Xbox Discord update includes friend activity and the ability to watch streams from console
The update is rolling out now
Microsoft and Discord have announced the next suite of features coming to Xbox’s Discord integration.
Highlights include the ability to watch friends stream directly on their Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console. If they’re sharing their screen from PC, mobile, or another Xbox, they’ll be able to watch whatever they’re playing.
Users can also now call their friends directly from Xbox consoles. The update will also unify the Xbox friends list and the Discord friends list, if players opt into it.
This new unified list will be found under “Happening now”, alongside Xbox friends in parties or games. Discord users can jump into a voice channel, watch a friend streaming, or initiate a call, all from their Xbox console.
If friends are currently talking or streaming their game in a Discord server’s voice channel, that channel will also be shown in the “Happening Now” tab (found to the right of the friends list).
These new features are beginning to roll out over the coming weeks, starting today for those in the Xbox Insider program, with global availability soon to follow.
