Xbox cloud gaming is coming to PC and iOS in spring 2021
Will add “over a billion devices as a path to playing in the Xbox ecosystem”
Microsoft has announced plans to launch cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for PC and iOS devices in the spring of 2021.
As of mid-September, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in 22 countries can play over 100 games on Android devices via the cloud using a compatible controller. About 20 of these games also support touch controls.
“In Spring 2021, we will take the next step in our journey to reach more players around the world by making cloud gaming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate available on Windows PCs through the Xbox app and browser, and iOS devices through mobile web browser,” Microsoft‘s Jerret West wrote on Xbox Wire.
“By adding over a billion devices as a path to playing in the Xbox ecosystem, we envision a seamless experience for all types of players; whether it’s playing Minecraft Dungeons with your Xbox friends using touch controls on an iPhone, or jumping into a Destiny 2: Beyond Light strike on a Surface Pro when you have a break between meetings.”
Microsoft is currently testing cloud gaming services in new markets including Australia, Brazil, Japan and Mexico, ahead of a full launch next year as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
And Xbox head Phil Spencer has said the company is working to bring Xbox Game Pass streaming to consoles too.
