WWE 2K25’s creative director has said the team may consider an alternate option in the future for players who can’t unlock all the game’s alternate outfits through loot boxes.

Last year’s edition WWE 2K24 introduced Personas, a type of character card which can be unlocked in the MyFaction mode (WWE’s equivalent of EA FC’s Ultimate Team or NBA 2K‘s MyTeam).

Not only do Persona cards let you play as a WWE superstar with a new or classic appearance, it also unlocks that alternative version for use in all other modes in the game.

2K24’s Persona cards include action figure versions of some wrestlers, ‘demake’ versions (designed to look like PS1 character models) and superstars with famous outfits from key moments in their career.

However, most of the Persona cards in the game are locked away in card packs, which have to be bought with VC, 2K Sports‘ in-game currency. While VC can be earned in-game, card packs can be expensive.

A ‘Deluxe’ box of 20 packs can cost up to 378,000 VC – 400,000 VC costs $100 / £90 – and even then there’s no guarantee that players will get the Persona cards they want in those packs.

Players can also buy individual cards after they’ve been out for a while, but these too can be expensive – a single Roman Reigns ’24 Persona card costs 160,500 VC, meaning players without any VC would have to buy a 187,500 VC pack for $50 / £45 to get him.

While some Persona cards can be purchased separately, they can cost anything up to $40+ of VC each.

The result is that the vast majority of players will never have a complete roster in other modes. Despite putting more than 100 hours into the game (almost all of which was spent in MyFaction), and despite owning all DLC to date, VGC still has more than 40 locked characters in all modes because they’re MyFaction Personas, we don’t have yet.

In a recent interview discussing the upcoming WWE 2K25, VGC asked if 2K could potentially resolve this in future games, by perhaps introducing a single one-off payment at the end of the game’s life to unlock all remaining Persona cards, allowing players (especially those who don’t play MyFaction) to complete their roster.

“I mean, that’s a good idea,” creative director Lynell Jinks told us. “It’s definitely not something that we have in this year’s game, but it’s definitely something that we should start looking at, if people feel like the game is too hard in order to unlock everything.”

2K Sports confirmed the first details on WWE 2K25 earlier this week, including information on a number of new modes and features.

The next entry in the long-running WWE series of video games will be released on March 14, with early access starting on March 7 for owners of the Deadman Edition or Bloodline Edition of the game.

New features include a new mode called The Island (which is exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S), intergender matches, a Showcase mode based on The Bloodline, the return of chain wrestling and new Bloodline Rules and Underground match types.
