WWE 2K23’s playable John Cena action figure remains US-only for now, 2K says
The publisher says it’s “looking into ways” to make the bizarre unlockable available elsewhere
2K Sports has told VGC that there are currently no solid plans to make WWE 2K23‘s unlockable John Cena action figure character available outside the US.
As initially spotted by dataminers shortly after the game’s release, the game’s MyFaction mode has a hidden alternate version of John Cena, in which the popular wrestler is replaced by a Mattel action figure version.
It was later revealed that players can unlock the bizarre character by purchasing a Mattel WWE action figure from Walmart stores in the US, then taking a photo of the receipt.
By uploading the photo of their receipt to a special Ruthless Redemption website, players will then receive a bespoke Locker Code which can be entered in the game’s MyFaction mode to unlock the character.
However, because the campaign requires players to buy a physical product from a US Walmart store, this means there’s currently no way for players outside of the US to get a redemption code, even though the locked character is sitting there in the game files.
Following an enquiry as to whether the promotion will extend beyond the US, a 2K spokesperson told VGC: “Currently, this promotion is only available in the US. We’re thrilled to see such excitement and demand from fans and are looking into ways to make these MyFACTION cards available to our global audience.”
WWE 2K23 was released for consoles and PC earlier this month, and includes a new WarGames mode, which offers 3v3 and 4v4 matches in the unique WarGames structure, consisting of two rings side-by-side inside a steel cage.
It also features a Showcase mode starring Cena, which spans 20 years of his career and is narrated by the wrestler himself.
