WWE 2K spin-off Battlegrounds debuts full trailer and release date
2K spin-off will release in September
2K has released the first full trailer for WWE 2K Battlegrounds and confirmed a September 18 release date.
The arcade spin-off is developed by Saber Interactive (NBA 2K Playgrounds) and is described as “a completely new WWE gaming experience” that will feature arcade-style action and over-the-top Superstar designs, environments and moves.
“Whether you’re a casual gamer just learning the ropes or a passionate fan ready for all the action, WWE 2K Battlegrounds provides another way to enjoy WWE video game action,” the game’s publisher said.
In April 2K announced it had recruited former Double Helix studio head Patrick Gilmore to lead the development of future WWE games as it attempts to enact a “renewed focus” on quality.
The publisher had earlier cancelled plans for WWE 2K21, following a disappointing 2K20 game.
Last month 2K’s new WWE games boss said his development team was looking at past classics such as No Mercy and Smackdown as inspiration for their next full game.
