PlayStation’s new WipEout is a mobile game
WipEout Rush is set for release on iOS and Android devices in early 2022
Classic PlayStation racing franchise WipEout is returning in the form of a new mobile game.
Set for release on iOS and Android devices in 2022, WipEout Rush is a card-based racer featuring a single-player campaign and 60 ships from the original games.
It also includes an original soundtrack from veteran Sony sound designer and composer Alastair Lindsay.

“If I want that visceral, immersive, intense racing experience, I’ll find it waiting on PlayStation,” Rogue CEO Matt Casamassina told IGN. “But at the same time, we’re delighted that we could rethink wipEout for mobile with some fun new play mechanics and gorgeous visuals.
“We hope fans will come to it with an open mind because—although different—we’re proud to bring the WipEout franchise back into focus with a fresh take on the formula,” he continued.
“And we’ve poured a lot of love into the presentation, which includes loads of iconic ships and tracks, a new comic book-inspired narrative, a fitting electronica soundtrack, and gorgeous visuals that run at 60 frames per second on modern hardware.”
Sony’s last Wipeout release was 2017’s Omega Collection, which remastered the previous two titles in the series, Wipeout HD and Wipeout 2048, for PS4.
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has said that PlayStation is planning to bring some of its “iconic IP” to mobile during its current business year ending in March 2022.
“We have been thinking about how players enjoy our content and have had some early success with experimenting with mobile games and apps to provide more choice to gamers,” he said in May. “Mobile is just one of the areas we are exploring to reach millions of gamers beyond our platforms.
“PlayStation has a huge catalogue of diverse first-party IP that can transition to smartphone gaming and complement our AAA games or live service games. We are exploring the mobile market with some wonderful PlayStation franchises so please stay tuned.”
