‘We have to be accurate’: Star Wars Galactic Racer boss explains why Anakin Skywalker is missing at launch

Fuse Games CEO and co-founder Matt Webster has told VGC that Star Wars Galactic Racer “has to be accurate” to the in-game timeline, adding “who knows” when asked if Anakin Skywalker will ever appear in the game.

In the full interview – which can be watched below – Webster explains that, because the game is set in the post-original-trilogy era of Star Wars, the only characters who appear in the single-player and arcade portions of the game are canonically alive at the time of the story.

When asked if Anakin would ever appear in the game, Webster said: “The thing there is, we need to be accurate, but that’s okay when you have experts.”

“We don’t recreate the Boonta Eve Classic as it appeared in Episode 1, because the outcome of that race is decided,” Webster said. “But there’s other ways we can use those inspirations and those moments in creative and interesting ways.”

When we pushed back and specifically asked about Anakin, Webster smiled and replied: “Who knows where things will take us. You’ve seen the characters that are available to you right now. What is true is that launch will be a moment, and we’re keen to bring new things to the game post-launch.”

Today we also published new multiplayer footage of the upcoming racer, which can be watched below. The multiplayer portion of the game sees players competing over a series of heats. After each race, players can upgrade their ship to improve their position in the next race. The series concludes with a finale in which every racer’s then-fully upgraded crafts battle it out for supremacy.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer will be released on October 6. Earlier this year, developer Fuse Games announced multiple versions of the game, including a $160 physical collector’s edition.

The Deluxe Edition of the game will cost $79.99/£64.99/€79.99 and comes with three bonus vehicles – the Kor Sarun: Darc X landspeeder, Kor Sarun: Ciza T speeder bike, and Kor Sarun: Rak S skim speeder – alongside three deluxe Arcade events, the Deluxe Livery Pack, Deluxe Player Banner Pack, and a Digital Art Book.

The highest-tier version, a $159.99/£139.99/€159.99 physical Collector’s Edition, will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and comes with a physical model of the Kor Sarun: Darc X landspeeder, along with a physical banner, two pilot patches, a physical copy of the Digital Art Book, and a custom slip cover and steel case.
