Modern Warfare and Warzone ‘XP bug’ stops some players levelling up Battle Passes

A number of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone players are encountering an XP bug which is preventing them from levelling up their Battle Passes.

VGC was notified of the progression issue by a reader, and we’ve seen similar complaints on Activision’s website, the Activision Support Twitter account, and Reddit.

Progression is unified across Modern Warfare and the free-to-play Warzone, which share the same Battle Pass. It costs 1,000 COD Points (about $10/£8.50) and has 100 tiers of content for players to unlock.

Update, May 5: Infinity Ward is working on a fix for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone XP bug which is making Battle Passes appear inactive for some players.

Update, May 10: Activision claims to have resolved a Modern Warfare and Warzone bug which was making Battle Passes appear inactive.

Original story continues: While there’s evidence that Modern Warfare XP problems have been around for some time – some have previously been acknowledged and supposedly fixed by developer Infinity Ward – a new wave of complaints appears to have cropped up since the game’s last major update was released on April 28.

Responding to one user on Monday, Activision Support tweeted: “If you are currently experiencing an issue with XP, please clear cache then play a few matches and let me know if the issue continues via DM. Thank you for your patience.”

Multiple users responded by saying that clearing their cache didn’t have the desired effect.

The progression problem has overlapped with a double XP weekend for Modern Warfare and Warzone, which included double XP, double weapon XP, and double Battle Pass tiers.

Several other issues emerged following the release of April 28’s 15GB update. On May 2, Activision said it had released a Modern Warfare and Warzone update which aimed to fix connection issues and long matchmaking times, but many users continue to report problems, and the publisher said on Monday it’s “still looking into the issue”.

VGC experienced issues playing Warzone over the weekend, including being kicked from multiple matches and voice chat issues preventing players from communicating online.

“The team is aware of the chat issue and working to get it resolved!” Activision said over the weekend. “Please just hang in there for now and stay tuned to future patch notes for updates.”

Details of known issues, patch notes and playlist updates can be found on developer Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare Trello board.

The April 28 Modern Warfare and Warzone update replaced the battle royale game’s Bounty contracts with a new Most Wanted player contract and added an Armour Satchel allowing players to carry up to eight armour plates instead of five, among other features.

A follow-up patch removed the Most Wanted contracts and reinstated Bounty ones, although it’s unclear if Infinity Ward made the change in response to player complaints or because the feature may have been bugged.

Raven Software’s creative director Amos Hodge recently provided an update on the much-requested Call of Duty Warzone Duos mode, while Infinity Ward studio narrative director Taylor Kurosaki said Call of Duty Warzone will “connect” the franchise’s various sub-brands such as Modern Warfare and Black Ops in the future.
