Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been delayed until the second half of 2024
Focus Entertainment previously said the game would launch this winter
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been significantly delayed, publisher Focus Entertainment has confirmed.
The sequel to 2011 hack-and-slash game Space Marine was revealed during The Game Awards in 2021, followed by a gameplay reveal at The Game Awards in 2022.
During Summer Game Fest earlier this year another trailer was shown, during which it was announced that the game would be released “this winter”.
However, an update posted by Focus Entertainment on its upcoming releases (as spotted by PCGamesN) says the game will now be coming much later than planned, with a release date to be revealed in December.
“Focus Entertainment will reveal the official launch date of the highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 – the iconic Games Workshop licence – in early December,” Focus’s statement reads.
“The game is now poised to ship in the second half of 2024, to provide the time needed to properly polish the game and to ensure the best possible experience.
“Focus Entertainment is committed to releasing a game that is of the highest quality and that exceeds the expectations of the countless fans of the franchise. Space Marine 2 has already accumulated over a million wish lists to date.”
Given that the game’s three major trailers have all appeared during shows run by Geoff Keighley, all signs point to Space Marine 2’s release date being announced during this year’s edition of The Game Awards, which takes place on December 7.
Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian has already confirmed that it’ll be announcing the release date for the Xbox Series X/S version of its game during The Game Awards.
