VGC Patreon update: Here’s all the exclusive content members received this month
This month we launched a new videos series, a book, and more
It’s been another great month for VGC’s Patreon, with members receiving exclusive videos, podcasts, a book discount, and more.
We launched Patreon.com/VideoGamesChronicle in August. By supporting VGC, you’re backing the future of fiercely independent games media, and getting a ton of extra content each month.
This month we’ve continued our retro podcast CVG: Chatting Vintage Games, as well as our Off Topic Podcast.
Not only that, we’ve debuted a new series, and we’ve got an exclusive discount for VGC Patreon members for VGC’s new book.
New Series – We 3 Watch E3
This month, VGC launched our latest Patreon video series, We 3 Watch E3.
In this series, VGC’s Jordan Middler, Chris Scullion, and Andy Robinson delve into the E3 archives to rewatch old press conferences and analyze them from a modern perspective.
To kick off the series, there’s perhaps no E3 conference more infamous than Sony‘s 2006 effort, which ended with the infamous $599 price point for the PS3.
VGC’s Andy Robinson was there in person, and offers his perspective on the much-memed showcase.
If it’s been a while since you last sat down and watched the Ridge Racer moment in full, or you need to brush up on your Giant Enemy Crabs, We 3 Watch E3 is the show for you.
The full two-hour-long video is available now on Patreon.com/VideoGamesChronicle. A preview of the first 10 minutes can be viewed above.
CVG Podcast – Sega Dreamcast & Horror Special
Last month, we launched our new Patreon-exclusive retro games podcast, Chatting Vintage Games, and since we last updated you, we’ve published two episodes packed with 30-year-old anecdotes.
In Episode 2, VGC’s Chris Scullion and Andy Robinson are joined by C-Smash VRS director, and all-round Sega super fan, Jörg Tittel to share memories of the Sega Dreamcast on its North American 25th anniversary.
Episode 3 is a horror games special, with VGC’s Chris Scullion and Jordan Middler joined by writer, presenter and streamer Ash Millman, who you may have seen before on the likes of PlayStation Access and WhatCulture Horror.
CVG is available to Patreon members at the Supporter tier and above, in both video and audio formats. Supporters can also be part of the show by contributing their memories and thoughts on that month’s topic.
Our Monthly Off Topic Pod & Team Q&A
In this month’s Off Topic, the VGC team discuss Ivan Ooze, America, The Beatles, and surprise hardcore gamer, Keith Chegwin.
We also published our separate, regular VGC team Q&A video, in which we answer questions from our Discord members such as, what makes a game next-gen? What qualities are most valued for game news journalists? And, what was the most impactful game release in our lives?
VGC: Off Topic is available to Patreon members in both video and audio formats at the Insider tier and above.
VGC Book Discount
This week we announced that VGC is returning to print for a brand new book.
Set to be published by Pen & Sword – the same publisher that handles our own Chris Scullion’s range of video game encyclopedia books – VGC: The 2025 Guide to Video Games will serve as a look back at this year and a look forward to the next.
The book is designed with old-school magazines in mind, which is why the cover art features a brand-new illustration by the legendary Wil Overton, who used to design covers for the likes of Super Play and N64 Magazine back in the day.
Some more good news for Patreon members is that you’ll be able to get a discount code for the book by signing up for Patreon.
Collections
Finally, this month we introduced Collections to our Patreon page.
If you’re someone who supports a lot of different Patreon pages, it can be difficult to navigate the content, especially as the months and years go on. While you can search for individual posts, we thought we’d make it as easy as possible and sort everything into collections.
This way, people who support now, or a year from now can easily sort through the archive and find the videos and articles they’re most interested in.
Coming Soon…
We have lots planned for the next few weeks, including behind-the-scenes vlogs from recent press trips, as well as our adventure to the UK’s biggest retro game shop. All that, plus the monthly podcasts and video series.
We’re also continuing to work on on-site benefits for our Patrons, such as exclusive article commenting privileges and ad-free browsing, which we’ll bring to you as soon as they’re tested and ready – hopefully in the near future.
Until next month, thank you for all your support!
