Veteran voice actor Matthew Mercer confirms he’s playing Ganondorf in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Critical Role and Attack on Titan star calls it “an immense honour”
Veteran anime and video game voice actor Matthew Mercer has confirmed that he’s playing Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The actor, who also serves as the Dungeon Master in popular web series Critical Role, announced his latest role on Twitter.
“I just got the go-ahead from Nintendo, so I can finally announce my absolute pleasure to be voicing Ganondorf in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” Mercer wrote.
He went on to call the role “an immense honor that I have thrown myself into doing justice”.

Mercer is best known for his voice acting work in a wide variety of anime and video games. In the anime world his roles include Levi Ackerman in Attack on Titan, Jotaro Kujo in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Trafalgar Law in One Piece and Falco in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
He’s also been lending his voice to a wide variety of video games over the past two decades. Notable roles include Leon in Resident Evil 6, Chrom in Fire Emblem Awakening, Cole Cassidy (now known as Jesse McCree) in Overwatch, Ira in Kingdom Hearts and MacCready in Fallout 4.
He’s also one of the few people to have been involved in both the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter series, having previously voiced Stryker in the former and Fei Long in the latter.
Ganondorf is seen in the final trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which was released on Thursday.
After a number of delays, the long-awaited sequel to Breath of the Wild will be released on May 12.
