Veteran LucasArts lead Matthew Shell has passed away
Shell was credited on over 60 games over 20 years
Matthew Shell, a veteran of LucasArts, has reportedly died.
Shell, who worked at LucasArts for over 20 years, suffered a heart attack earlier this week, according to The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley, who announced Shell’s passing on social media.
“Matt was an incredible person with a huge heart — kind, loyal, hard working and always funny. He brought a smile to every meeting,” Keighley said, paying tribute to the developer.
Shell is credited on virtually every significant release in the LucasArts catalog for the last two decades. He’s most recently credited in 2023’s Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, where he served as the game’s director of brand marketing.
EA global PR lead Ray Almeda joined in the tributes to Shell, writing: “We will miss his jokes, love for Sticky Toffee Pudding, BBQ expertise, celebrating Warriors championships the night of, and of course his profound fandom for his SF Giants. Rest in Paradise my friend and May the Force be with you, always.”
General manager of Good Shepard Entertainment Lincoln Hershberger wrote: “Matt was such an incredible human being. It’s hard to make sense of this tragic news. He was a beloved friend and colleague who I will miss forever.”
