Valve marks Half-Life’s 25th anniversary with game update and documentary
Plus the game is free to claim this weekend
Valve has marked Half-Life’s 25th anniversary with several promotions and content drops, including an extensive new update for the original game.
As detailed on the new 25th anniversary site, Valve has added new multiplayer maps, restored game content, graphics options and full Steam Deck compatibility.
Valve is also marking the occasion by making Half-Life free-to-keep for anyone adding it to their Steam library this weekend, and putting the rest of the games in the franchise on discount.
Finally, Valve has released an hour-long documentary – made in partnership with Secret Tape – in which the original development team share their memories of creating Valve’s first game.
The last Half-Life game, VR title Half-Life Alyx, was released in 2020.
According to a report published in late 2021, Half-Life 3 was not in active development at the time, and Valve was instead focusing on Steam Deck friendly titles.
