Tom Holland Uncharted movie dated for Dec 2020
Prequel film finally gets a release date
Sony has set a December 18, 2020 release date for the Uncharted movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) and star Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake.
Its script will not follow the plot of the games, but instead tell a prequel story that follows Drake as a young treasure hunter learning from his mentor, Sully.
Sony Interactive Entertainment recently formed a new production studio to adapt its original game properties for film and television.
The new unit, PlayStation Productions, is headed up by Sony’s veteran marketer Asad Qizilbash and overseen by SIE chairman of worldwide studios Shawn Layden.
While it’s based out of the Sony Pictures lot in California and is set to receive distribution help from its sister company, the business will handle production of all adaptations in-house.
“We looked at what Marvel has done in taking the world of comic books and making it into the biggest thing in the film world,” Layden said at the time.
“It would be a lofty goal to say we’re following in their footsteps, but certainly we’re taking inspiration from that.”
