In the console’s biggest official discount since its November 2020 launch, Sony has cut the PS5 price by £75 / €75, although some retailers are offering even bigger savings.
On PlayStation Direct in the UK, PS5’s price has been reduced from £479.99 to £404.99, with the offer valid until August 10.
However, the console can currently be purchased for £399.99 at retailers including Amazon, Argos and Currys, with the latter even including a copy of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
It may be attempting to clear stock of the console’s launch model ahead of unconfirmed plans to launch a new PS5 model featuring a detachable disc drive later this year.
Sony claimed on Thursday that PS5 sales have topped 40 million worldwide. PS4 remains the fastest-selling Sony console to reach the milestone, having hit 40 million sales two months quicker, but it didn’t face the same Covid-related supply issues that checked PS5’s momentum.
