Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia The Sands of Time remake gets a 2026 release window
The game is in development at its Montreal and Toronto studios
Ubisoft has announced a 2026 release window for its long-in-development Prince of Persia The Sands of Time remake.
The teaser trailer above premiered during Monday’s Ubisoft Forward showcase, revealing a launch window for the game but not target platforms.
When it was announced in September 2020, the game had been in development for two and a half years at Indian studios Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and it was planned for release in January 2021.
But following a negative reaction to the game’s reveal trailer, it was delayed several times, and last year it was announced that Ubisoft Montreal, which made 2003’s original Sands of Time, had taken over development duties.
Last month, Ubisoft claimed “excellent progress” was being made on the game.
In a brief update, the company said Ubisoft Toronto had come on board to collaborate with Ubisoft Montreal on the project.
Toronto is the studio behind Far Cry 5, Far Cry 6, Watch Dogs Legion and the upcoming Splinter Cell remake.
“The game holds a special place for many of us at our studio,” said Ubisoft Toronto managing director Darryl Long. “I still remember how much fun I had playing the original with its breakthrough feature that lets you rewind time.
“We now have the chance to rewind time ourselves, and bring our updated tech, expertise and creativity to modernize this classic game with our partners at Ubisoft Montreal.”
