Ubisoft reveals first Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora trailer ahead of the game’s 2022 release
The game is in development at Massive Entertainment, the studio behind The Division
Ubisoft has revealed the first trailer for its upcoming Avatar game.
Set for release in 2022, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is in development at Massive Entertainment, the studio behind The Division franchise.
The game’s reveal was saved for the finale of the Ubisoft Forward digital event on Saturday.
“Speaking of great partnerships, there is one more exciting thing we would like to show you today,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
“It is a glimpse of the amazing journey that awaits you in one of the most beautiful but dangerous places of all, brought to life by the latest version of our Snowdrop engine.”
Ubisoft subsequently revealed that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person, open-world action-adventure game for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Stadia and Luna. It will feature a “new, standalone story” that takes players to unseen areas of Pandora
The release of James Cameron’s Avatar 2 film sequel is currently scheduled for December 16, 2022.
“We are proud that some of the biggest names in entertainment trust our creative teams to develop teams within their universes,” Guillemot also said.
Earlier on Saturday, Ubisoft revealed Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, which Guillemot said is being “developed in collaboration with Nintendo”.
And Lucasfilm announced in January that it had partnered with Ubisoft on a new open-world Star Wars game The project is also being developed by Massive, marking the first time that a company outside of EA has worked on a Star Wars game in eight years.
Asked about a planned launch window for the game during an earnings call in February, Guillemot said: “We are at the early stage of development on the Star Wars game.
“The project will be headed by our Massive studio, who will make the most of their cutting-edge technology, including the Snowdrop engine, to deliver a groundbreaking Star Wars adventure.”
