Ubisoft has officially shut down online services for over 90 games

Ubisoft has officially ended online support for over 90 games.

The announcement was made on the game’s official website, which provided a list of games that “have now been shut down”, some of which appear to have been taken offline at some point in the past.

While certain games will only lose online services on certain platforms, for others – such as Avatar, Rainbow Six Vegas and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 – it marks an end to the ability to officially play those games online.

UPDATE: Ubisoft has said that the list of games taken offline was mistakenly updated last week with titles that are not yet offline, and it has now been updated to reflect this.

“Some of our games (Anno 2070, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed 3, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 3, Silent Hunter 5 and Splinter Cell Blacklist) were taken offline for a short maintenance and services have been restored,” the publisher said.

“We will provide advance notice before shutting down any online services for our games and have updated our support article to reflect this.”

ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: The list mostly concerns games from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era, but some titles (like Toy Soldiers: War Chest and Just Dance 2015) were also released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and could be played on current-gen consoles via backwards compatibility.

According to Ubisoft, the offline single-player portions of the listed games won’t be affected, but online functionality will be disabled.

This not only includes online multiplayer, but also in-game news and player statistics.

Units and Challenges for the games that used Ubisoft Connect will also be disabled, meaning players will no longer be able to earn Units for completing certain tasks.

Content that could be unlocked through Ubisoft Connect, such as maps and skins, will also be disabled, meaning players will no longer be able to unlock them.

The titles are being delisted with little to no notice

Although the list is lengthy, some of the inclusions are somewhat unusual. The list includes games featured on OnLive, a game streaming service which ended in 2015, and certain versions of other games in the list (such as the GameCube version of Rainbow Six Lockdown) never had online in the first place.
