Turtle Beach has ended its partnership with Dr Disrespect
The accessories maker has cut ties with the streamer following sexting allegations
Turtle Beach has ended its partnership with Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm following recent negative publicity surrounding the popular streamer.
Last January, the gaming accessories maker and Beahm cemented a long-running partnership by announcing a new multi-year deal which would see the streamer continue to use various Turtle Beach products and “help design the next round of performance-driven gaming gear”.
However, Turtle Beach confirmed to VGC on Tuesday that it had parted ways with Dr Disrespect, shortly after it was alleged that the streamer was previously dropped by Twitch after being caught sexting a minor.
“We will not be continuing our partnership with Guy Beahm/DrDisRespect,” a Turtle Beach spokesperson said.
Beahm was one of Twitch’s most popular streaming personalities prior to the June 2020 termination of an exclusive deal with the platform, which was said to have been worth as much as $10 million a year.
The previous year he’d also received a temporary Twitch ban for broadcasting from an E3 restroom.
Twitch has never publicly confirmed the reason for Beahm’s ban and, following the streamer’s threat to sue in 2021, the pair released statements that the matter had been resolved and that “no party admits to any wrongdoing.”
However, the situation took a turn last week when a former Twitch employee posted an accusation to X, which while not mentioning Beahm by name, was widely assumed to be targeted at the streamer.
“He got banned because [he] got caught sexting a minor in the then existing Twitch whispers product,” they wrote. “He was trying to meet up with her at TwitchCon. The powers that be could read in plain text. Case closed, gang.”
The Verge later corroborated the claims and named Beahm directly.
On Monday, Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by Dr Disrespect, announced it had cut ties with the streamer following the new allegations concerning his ban from Twitch.
