Tower of Fantasy studio Hotta shares new details on the game’s Vera expansion
Next week’s Version 2.0 release will be the the game’s first major free content update
More information has been shared on Vera, the first expansion for free-to-play open-world MMORPG Tower of Fantasy.
Developer Hotta Studio and publisher Level Infinite went into more detail on the expansion, which is set for release next week, in a live stream broadcast on Thursday.
The stream gave players the first look at a new character called Ruby, as well as her Spark weapon and abilities.
It also showed the two main environments that make up the expansion, Gobby and Mirroria.
Gobby is a vast, irradiated desert, while Mirroria is a cyberpunk city located in the middle of it. According to Hotta Studio, while the city appears to be a respite from the desert, it’s full of dangerous situations.
Both areas in the new expansion will offer new missions, events, raids, instances, monsters and legendary bosses, as well as fresh vehicles and weapons.
According to the developer, if players meet certain conditions and participate in in-game events they can earn up to 70 draws, which it claims are “the biggest rewards ever”.
The version 2.0 Vera update will be available for free on October 20 on the official Tower of Fantasy website, the iOS App Store and Google Play.
Tower of Fantasy launched globally on PC and mobile on August 11. The game has been popular for some time in China, but this marked the first time it was playable in the west.
Featuring an anime-inspired art style and a sci-fi story, Tower of Fantasy takes place hundreds of years in the future after humanity has fled the collapsing environment of earth and taken up home on the distant planet of Aida.
“Players will be able to experience an anime-inspired post-apocalyptic sci-fi art style, freeform character development, immersive objectives, and exciting combat through thrilling battles and exciting open world exploration,” according to the game’s description.
Level Infinite previously claimed that over one million players participated across two Tower of Fantasy closed beta tests and that three million players pre-registered for the game.
