Tomb Raider Reloaded has been announced for mobiles
Free-to-play action arcade title will be released in 2021
Square Enix has announced Tomb Raider Reloaded, a new mobile entry in the long-running Lara Croft series.
Set for release in 2021, Tomb Raider Reloaded is billed as a free-to-play action arcade game.
It’s being developed by Vancouver, Canada-based Emerald City Games (G.I. Joe: War on Cobra, Lionheart in Dark Moon) and published by Square Enix London Mobile.
Square Enix launched the seventh and final Shadow of the Tomb Raider DLC pack in April 2019.
2018 release Shadow of the Tomb Raider was the concluding game in Crystal Dynamics‘ Tomb Raider reboot trilogy. Chronicling Lara Croft’s origin story, it began with 2013’s Tomb Raider and continued with 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Jonathan Dahan, a producer at Shadow of the Tomb Raider co-development studio Eidos Montréal, told USgamer last year that the company was “super happy” with how the game had turned out critically and commercially.
“I’d be extremely surprised if we didn’t see more of it,” he added. “We’re not able to say anything about what’s happening next, but I’d be very surprised if we didn’t hear more about the franchise.”
A sequel to 2018’s Tomb Raider film was delayed indefinitely by movie studio MGM last month, according to Deadline.
Directed by Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire) and starring Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander, it had been due to release in March 2021.
