Tokyo Game Show’s live streams will be opened by an Xbox Showcase

The full Tokyo Game Show 2020 live stream schedule has been revealed, featuring Xbox, Cyberpunk 2077 and more.

Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online will be held for four days from September 24, with various companies including “major publishers” providing game updates and new announcements via TGS’s official streaming and video channels.

As detailed in the official schedule, TGS’s opening is set to be followed immediately by a 50-minute Xbox Tokyo Games Show Showcase.

Xbox head Phil Spencer has been very open with regards to his desire to improve Xbox’s position in Japan.

Earlier this year the Xbox boss said that he felt the platform’s market position in Japan wasn’t acceptable and pledged to do “a much better job” with the Series X launch in the region. It was later confirmed that Xbox Series X would launch in Japan during the 2020 holiday season.

Following Xbox, Square Enix will then hold its own 50-minute segment, which its website suggests could include Platinum Games title Babylon’s Fall.

Tokyo Game Show live steams will begin on September 24.

On Friday, September 25, Capcom will participate in a special TGS live stream which will feature titles including Resident Evil: Village.

Sega, Bandai Namco, Konami and more are also set to feature during Tokyo Game Show’s streaming schedule, as well as a special Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire episode on Saturday, September 26.

Tokyo Game Show 202 was shifted to a digital-only setup following the pandemic. In addition to its live streams, online round-table discussions, an esports tournament and a business matching system for exhibitors will be offered free-of-charge.

262,076 people attended Tokyo Game Show 2019, which was held in the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan from September 12-15. That’s down significantly from Tokyo Game Show 2018’s attendance figure (298,690) but is higher than 2017’s (254,311).

The coronavirus led to the cancellation of multiple annual games industry events in 2020 including E3 planned for June and Gamescom planned for August. The cancellation of this year’s E3 show caused games publishers to spread their marketing plans more broadly across the 2020 calendar.
