‘This decision was not made lightly’: Argonaut delays Croc return

Argonaut Games has delayed its remaster of classic platformer Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, into next year.

In a statement published on Friday, the company said that it had decided to push the remaster’s planned December release so that it could spend more time working on the game, which will now release in Q1 2025.

“This decision was not made lightly, but we believe that a little more time is needed to add the final touches to ensure the game meets the high standards that we aspire to and which you deserve,” it said.

“We understand that after 27 years of waiting, this news might be a little disappointing, especially with the festive season coming soon. However, our goal has always been to deliver a game with the quality and polish that will truly delight. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to bring croc back in the best possible way.”

It was announced in August that Croc developer Argonaut Games had been revived, and that Croc would be the first of numerous Argonaut titles set to be brought back.

The remaster will feature enhanced HD graphics, modern controls (with an option to keep the original’s tank controls), an updated camera and retro video modes.

However, players who prefer retro aesthetics will also have access to the original 1997 PC version of the game, tweaked to work on modern hardware.
