The Witcher series ‘tops 40 million sales’
Wild Hunt accounts for over half of the total ahead of its Switch release
The Witcher publisher CD Projekt claims the RPG series has sold over 40 million copies since launching in 2007.
That’s up from 33 million sales announced in a financial results report in March 2018.
The most recent series entry, the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, accounts for more than 20 million sales, according to the publisher.
Wild Hunt originally released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015. Earlier this week, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition was confirmed for release on Switch in 2019, marking the first time the series will be made available on a Nintendo platform.
The Switch version will come with the base game and every piece of available additional content, including both story expansions – Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine – and 16 DLC packs.
A fourth Witcher game has yet to be confirmed, with development studio CD Projekt Red focused primarily on the production of upcoming sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077.
Netflix will launch its The Witcher live-action TV series in the fourth quarter of 2019. Former Superman actor Henry Cavill will portray monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of the fantasy series created by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
