The Witcher 3’s delayed new-gen update gets a December release date

CD Projekt has announced that the updated version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released for new-gen consoles and PC on December 14, 2022.

It said the new-gen update will feature dozens of visual, performance and technical enhancements over the original, including ray tracing support, faster loading times on consoles, and a variety of mods integrated into the experience.

Witcher 3’s new-gen release was originally scheduled to launch last year before being delayed to the second quarter of 2022.

However, in April CD Projekt delayed its release again and brought development in-house to complete the project.

The new-gen release was previously being developed externally by Saber Interactive, which also handled the game’s Nintendo Switch port.

CD Projekt said at the time that it was “evaluating the scope of work to be done” on the game and dismissed suggestions the product was in development hell.

The new-gen edition of Witcher 3 will include DLC items inspired by the Netflix series.

It will be released as a standalone purchase for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5, and as a free update for players who already own the game on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Last month, CD Projekt Red announced plans for a new trilogy of Witcher games, Witcher spin-offs, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, and the studio’s first original IP.

More recently, it confirmed that a “full-fledged remake” of the original The Witcher game had entered production using Unreal Engine 5.
