The Uncharted film director is ‘working with Sony on a Jak and Daxter adaptation’
Ruben Fleischer hopes to bring Naughty Dog’s series to cinemas or TV screens
The director of the upcoming Uncharted movie has revealed he’s also working on a Jak and Daxter adaptation.
In an interview with Digital Trends, Ruben Fleischer confirmed he’s collaborating with Sony to bring another Naughty Dog franchise to cinemas or TV screens.
“I’m actually working on Jak and Daxter, a version of that, for PlayStation, which I think would be really cool to bring to life,” he said.
In a recent GameSpot interview, Uncharted and Spider-Man star Tom Holland also said a live-action take on Jak and Daxter would be his next dream video game adaptation.
“I would like to make a Jak and Daxter movie, and I would play Jak,” he said. “But I would make it at A24, so it was really weird and like dark. Yeah, I would do like a really weird, live-action version of Jak and Daxter.”
Three main Jak & Daxter games were released for PS2 in the early 2000s, followed by a racing spin-off and a couple of handheld adventures.
Despite an HD collection for PS3 and Vita in 2012 and a similar re-release bundle for PS4 in 2017, there hasn’t been a new game in the series in over 12 years.
And last year, Naughty Dog co-president Even Wells made it clear that the studio wasn’t working on a new entry in the series.
Following a six-month delay, the Uncharted movie is scheduled to hit UK cinemas on February 11 and US theatres one week later.
It’s the first feature film from PlayStation Productions, a studio formed by Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt its original game properties for film and television in partnership with Sony Pictures.
PlayStation Productions is also working on a The Last of Us HBO TV series, a live-action Ghost of Tsushima movie helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, and a Twisted Metal TV series from Deadpool’s writers, among other projects.
