The star of the Sonic movies says he could yet return for Sonic 4
Jim Carrey says he’s ‘definitely open’ to more Sonic
Actor Jim Carrey has said he’s open to potentially returning as Dr. Robotnik in a future Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Carrey has starred as the key villain in all three Sonic movies, but in the past, he’s suggested he was under no pressure to accept movie roles he wasn’t personally interested in.
The latest movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, also ends on an ambiguous note for Carrey’s Robotnik. However, speaking to Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today, the actor suggested he’d be willing to return for a potential Sonic 4.
“I’m definitely open,” he said. “I’m open to the idea, and generally, they come to me with the next idea, and if I go, ‘that sounds fun’, then I’ll do it. I don’t feel locked to anything in life, unless it’s something that interests me.
He added: “I certainly love this crew, I love this gang that makes these movies, and I love the fans. There’s a lot of really great energy around it, great responses, and the fans jump in and say, ‘how about if you do this?’ They’ve been super helpful. I think we’re all making this movie together.”
Since its debut last week, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has grossed around $210 million globally, according to Deadline. It needs to beat the last movie’s $405 million to become the highest-grossing installment in the series.
Paramount Pictures has reportedly greenlit a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie. According to Variety, Sonic 4 is in the planning stages and is anticipated to release in spring 2027.
All three Sonic movies were directed by Jeff Fowler, starring Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, and Ben Schwartz as Sonic.
Speaking to VGC last year, Sega’s transmedia boss Justin Scarpone said he has big ambitions for Sega’s future as an entertainment company and revealed he plans to open an official Sega store in Tokyo, Japan.
