A 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Japan on New Year’s Day
The Pokémon Company has announced it will donate 50 million JPY (around $345,750) to support those affected by the recent devastating earthquake in Japan.
On New Year’s Day, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck the country, devastating many neighbourhoods and killing at least 92 people.
The earthquake also triggered a small tsunami that flooded at least 296 acres of land, according to Japan’s land ministry.
As of Friday, Japan’s Self-Defense Forces doubled the number of troops taking part in rescue efforts to 4,600, according to the Kyodo news agency.
The Pokémon Company said yesterday it would support efforts to help those affected by the disaster.
“We would like to express our deepest sympathies to those affected by the 2020 Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024,” it wrote.
“The Pokémon Company has decided to donate 50 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society and donations to support organizations in order to help those affected by the disaster and to help restore the affected areas.
“Additionally, through the Pokémon With You Foundation, we will continue to carry out activities to help children affected by the disaster regain their smiles. We sincerely pray for the earliest possible recovery and reconstruction of the disaster-stricken areas.”
