The physical version of Star Wars Outlaws will require an online connection to install, it’s been revealed.

Pre-orders for Ubisoft’s single player title went live today coinciding with the announcement of its August 30, 2024, release date.

“Internet required to install the game,” reads a message posted on the box art for the game on GameStop and Best Buy.

While it’s unclear why the game requires an internet connection to install, this was also the case with Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which was released in December.

In Avatar’s case, a one-time internet connection was required to download a day one patch in order to start playing the game.

Players who purchase the Star Wars Outlaws Gold or Ultimate editions will receive three days of early access to the game starting on August 27.

These editions also come with the game’s season pass, which includes two narrative expansions, an exclusive Jabba’s Gambit mission available at launch, and a character cosmetic pack.

Star Wars Outlaws tells an original story set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, which follows scoundrel Kay Vess and her companion Nix.

“During this era, the Empire’s rule is distracted by the rebellion that won’t quit, leading to a golden age for the underworld,” reads an official description of the game. “As a skilled thief, Kay’s antics catch the attention of Sliro, the leader of a new, foreboding criminal syndicate Zerek Besh.

“After Sliro places a bounty on Kay’s head, Kay and Nix are offered their one shot at freedom – pull off one of the greatest heists of all time.

“Kay and Nix will need to navigate the underworld across the galaxy, building their reputation with legendary criminal organizations including the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, the Ashiga Clan and Crimson Dawn to earn the support they need to finish the job.”
