Update: The Outer Worlds ‘is enhanced for Xbox One X and PS4 Pro’
“The game looks great across all platforms,” says Private Division
Update: Publisher Private Division has clarified that The Outer Worlds “is enhanced for both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro”.
While the Xbox One X version of the title includes native 4K resolution and textures, the PS4 Pro version upscales content to adaptive 4K.
Private Division said: “The Outer Worlds is enhanced for both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. The Outer Worlds includes 4K textures and resolution on Xbox One X and PC, and upsamples to 4K from 1440p on PlayStation 4 Pro. The game looks great across all platforms and we’re excited for players to experience The Outer Worlds on October 25th.”

Publisher Private Division confirmed that the PS4 edition of Obsidian’s upcoming RPG will be capped at 1080p in a brief statement provided to Windows Central.
The company said the game is “4K on Xbox One, no enhancements for PS4 Pro.” It’s unclear why this is the case, but it’s worth noting that Microsoft acquired Obsidian in late 2018.
While The Outer Worlds is also set for release on PC and Nintendo Switch, Microsoft hopes to build it into an “enduring franchise” and any potential sequels look set to be restricted to Xbox and PC.
In an interview published in September, the game’s narrative designer Megan Starks said Obsidian is “absolutely interested” in fleshing out The Outer Worlds with future games and already has “a full universe of lore”.
The Outer Worlds, which won the Game Critics E3 2019 award for Best Original Game, is being co-directed by original Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky.
It will debut on October 25 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, the same day as a new Fallout software collection for PC called Fallout Legacy hits stores, as well as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The Outer Worlds will also be available via Xbox Game Pass for console and PC.
