Square Enix will finally release the original Dragon Quest Builders for PC next month.

The sandbox construction game is now available to pre-order on Steam priced at $27.99 / £21.99 ahead of its release on February 13.

Dragon Quest Builders was originally released for PS3, PS4 and PS Vita in 2016, before making its way to Nintendo Switch in 2018 and to mobile devices in 2022.

“Dragon Quest Builders is an immersive sandbox gaming experience that invites Builders to rebuild the ruined realm of Alefgard, gathering materials and crafting unique items with endless possibilities,” according to its publisher.

The game was well received by critics, earning it scores of 83 (PS4) and 81 (Switch) on review aggregation site Metacritic.

The Steam version will include upgraded crafting features and Terra Incognita, “the content that was originally added in 2022 to the mobile version, where Builders can freely craft and play, now with nearly double the height of blocks that can be stacked on their creations”.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 was released for Switch and PS4 in 2018, before making its way to PC the following year and to Xbox One in May 2021.

VGC’s 5/5 Dragon Quest Builders 2 review called the building RPG “a perfect sequel”.

Dragon Quest Builders series director Kazuya Niinou left Square Enix in 2019, citing burnout after seven years with the Japanese Final Fantasy publisher.
