The Nier series will continue as long as Yoko Taro remains alive, producer says
But the pair are set to reveal a separate project next year
The producer of the Nier games says the series will continue, as long as its creative director Yoko Taro remains alive.
Yoko and series producer Yosuke Saito attended the G-STAR 2023 event in South Korea this past weekend to give a presentation about the making of Nier Automata.
During the presentation, as reported by 4gamer, the topic of the future series was brought up.
According to 4gamer’s report, Saito said that as long as Taro remained alive, the Nier series would continue, though he also stressed that there were circumstances that prevented them from releasing another one soon.
He also reportedly ended the presentation by stating that he and Yoko were working together on another project separate from Nier, and that he would like to talk about it in 2024 at some point.
Developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix, Nier: Automata was originally released for PS4 and PC in 2017, before making its way to Xbox One in 2018.
A Switch version of the game was released in October 2022, adding new costumes exclusive to that port.
Yoko Taro’s last game was 404 Game Re:set, a mobile game created in collaboration with Sega.
The game, which is set in the future and portrays Sega as the world’s largest corporation with a sinister control over the world, was released in Japan in April, but it’s since been announced that it will shut down in January 2024.
