The next Outer Worlds game is reportedly in pre-production
Obsidian said to be exploring a follow-up to 2019’s sci-fi RPG
A new The Outer Worlds game is reportedly in pre-production at Obsidian Entertainment.
That’s according to Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners, and a generally reliable insider who tweeted: “Last I heard a new entry in the franchise is being explored, currently in pre-production.
“Could change into something else ofc, but this is the current status.”
Microsoft, which acquired Obsidian in November 2018, has said it hopes to build The Outer Worlds into an “enduring franchise”, while the game’s narrative designer told VGC last year that the studio is “absolutely interested” in fleshing out The Outer Worlds with future games and already has “a full universe of lore”.
It was announced last week that The Outer Worlds will be released on Steam on October 23, 2020.
Obsidian’s sci-fi RPG first released for Xbox One, PS4 and PC via the Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass in October 2019.
Publisher Private Division then released the game for Nintendo Switch in June 2020.
The first of two expansions for The Outer Worlds, Peril on Gorgon, released in September and increased the level cap to 33.
A second expansion, Murder on Eridanos, is scheduled to launch in the first half of calendar 2021.
Peril on Gorgon is available for $14.99 digitally or it can be purchased as part of the Outer Worlds Expansion Pass, which will also include Murder on Eridanos, for $24.99.
Obsidian is currently working on Avowed, a triple-A fantasy RPG that takes place in Eora, the world in which Pillars of Eternity is set.
