A new Nintendo Direct showcase could be held next week, it’s been claimed.

Asked about speculation that a Nintendo Direct presentation could take place this month, Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb said he’d heard that a showcase is planned for the week beginning on February 6.

“Everything I’m hearing—and it’s all just sort of reiterating it—it continues to be the week of February 6,” he said. “Over and over and over again, every little detail I get is, basically, a week from now we should begin hearing about all this stuff.”

He added: “I think it’s probably late in the week, so if February 6 is going to come around and we’re not going to hear about it, and people are going to freak out like there’s nothing happening, first of all I’m not guaranteeing it for that week, I’m just saying that’s what everything is sort of pointing to right now.

“I don’t think that’s too surprising because they always have one in February or March at the latest. I think it’s going to happen, I think it’s going happen pretty soon, and I wouldn’t be surprised if all these indicators are exactly right, especially with that stuff shaking loose with Advance Wars 1+2.”

Last week, the Nintendo eShop page for Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp was updated, potentially indicating that a new release date for the long-delayed game could be announced soon, and Grubb speculated that the game could feature in the next Direct.

“It got a new game ID and they’re telling retailers to take pre-orders again,” he said. “They’re probably going to just drop that in a Nintendo Direct real quick and push it out the door real fast, and then they’ll have a bunch of announcements about other stuff, and then we’ll get some updates on Tears of the Kingdom,” he speculated.

Prior to its official announcement, Grubb correctly reported that the last general Nintendo Direct presentation would take place in September 2022, although he was off the mark when it came to some of his predictions about what would be showcased at the event.

Following a delay, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released in May and could launch alongside a special edition Switch OLED console.

Nintendo is reportedly planning to increase Switch production in its next fiscal year beginning April to meet continued demand for the console, which will soon enter its seventh year on the market.

The company will announce its third quarter earnings results on February 7.
