The next big Marvel game is coming this Christmas, according to the game’s star

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra could be released this Christmas, according to one of the game’s voice actors.

The next big game from Marvel Games and Amy Hennig‘s Skydance Games will tell the story of a young Steve Rodgers as he finds his feet as Captain America.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was revealed during an Unreal Engine showcase at GDC in March, and stars Drew Moerlein as Captain America and Khary Payton as Black Panther. Last year it was announced that the game will be published by Plaion.

While the game doesn’t currently have a release date, it may be coming this year, according to the actor behind one of the game’s stars.

When asked about the release date of the game, Black Panther actor Khary Payton said, “We’re still working. We’re planning on 2025.”

“We’re thinking like a Christmas situation, but I’m so excited.”

In December, Hennig debuted new concept art from the game which shows a glimpse at the the jungles of Wakanda in Marvel 1943.

“Wakanda at this point in time is hidden away from the outside world and protected by this impenetrable jungle,” she explains. “They are non-interventionist, but events transpire that pull them into the conflict. They have to protect their interests. The world is getting smaller. No satellites yet, but there will be soon. You can shoot down planes that maybe want to fly over Wakanda, but how long can you stay in the shadows?”

According to the official plot blurb for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra: “In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy.

“Fighting alongside Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris, they must join forces to stop a sinister plot that threatens to turn the havoc of WWII into the ultimate rise of Hydra.”

It’s the first game from Uncharted director Amy Hennig since she served as a story consultant on 2023’s Forspoken. Prior to that she was a writer on 2015’s Battelfield Hardline. Hennig was helming a Star Wars project before it was canceled by EA.

Ragtag, which was a third-person action game set in the Star Wars universe, was canceled in 2024.
