The latest PS4 and PS5 updates ‘improve system performance’

Sony Interactive Entertainment has rolled out new PS4 and PS5 system updates.

According to its update patch notes, versions 10.70 (PS4) and 23.01-07.60.00 (PS5) were released on July 20.

“This system software update improves system performance,” read separate, identical patch notes for the two updates.

The previous firmware update for PS5 was June’s version 23.01-07.40.00, which improved messages and usability on some screens, according to Sony.

The console’s last major update was released in early March, having previously launched in beta in February.

In addition to Discord voice chat, it added the ability to start or request a Share Screen session with a friend directly from their profile.

It also introduced Variable Refresh Rate support for displays that support 1440p resolution.

Other new features included the ability to transfer data between PS5s, an option to upload game captures to the PlayStation App, using voice commands to capture video clips, and the ability to sort and filter games when adding them to a gamelist.

Despite selling in record numbers, PS5 has recently been the subject of significant price promotions in European countries including the UK, Spain, Portugal and France.

In the UK, Sony cut the price of three PS5 console bundles (God of War Ragnarök, FIFA 23 and Modern Warfare 2) by up to £60 at the start of June, and they’ll remain priced at £479.99 until July 31.

The company may be attempting to clear stock ahead of unconfirmed plans to launch a new PS5 model featuring a detachable disc drive later this year.
