The latest update for Apple’s iOS operating system adds support for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S controllers.

iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 has launched with a number of new features, one of which is support for the new controllers.

Apple‘s devices already support PlayStation DualShock 4 controllers, Xbox One wireless controllers (with Bluetooth), Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers and the Xbox Adaptive Controller.

The latest update, according to the official changelog, adds support for the Xbox Series X and S wireless controller, and the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller.

The news will be considered particularly well-timed for some Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, as just last week Microsoft started inviting members to a cloud gaming beta for Windows 10 PCs and Apple devices via web browsers.

On April 20, invites started being sent to subscribers based in 22 countries, who are able to play over 100 supported Xbox games via Edge, Google Chrome, or Safari browsers.

Currently, over 200 cloud-enabled Xbox games can be played using Android devices and a compatible controller, with a growing number of the titles also supporting touch controls.

Controller support is also available in the majority of games on Apple Arcade, a subscription service that includes a library of exclusive games and other popular titles free of ads and microtransactions.

In early April, Apple launched what it called the service’s “biggest expansion” to date, with over 30 games added to Apple Arcade.

These included Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Fantasian and a surprise golf game from Everybody’s Golf developer Clap Hanz, the latter marking the end of more than 20 years of PlayStation exclusivity for the studio.
