The Last of Us Part 2 gets a PS5 performance patch targeting 60fps

Naughty Dog has finally released a The Last of Us Part 2 performance patch for PlayStation 5.

Writing on the PlayStation Blog, studio communications director Arne Meyer said the update was “one of the most requested items” from Naughty Dog fans.

“Once patch 1.08 for The Last of Us Part II is installed on your PS5, you will find a toggle in the Display options that allows you to choose between a Framerate Target of 30 FPS or 60 FPS.

“This allows you to choose your preferred framerate to complement the rest of the enhancements that are part of the PS5 backward compatibility with PS4 games, such as an enhanced resolution, faster load times, and more.”

Meyer added: “The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!”

Digital Foundry has been testing the update for the past week and claims it delivers the PS4 Pro experience “at a full, practically flawless 60 frames per second”.

Following its June 2020 release, The Last of Us Part 2 sales cleared four million copies worldwide in three days, making it the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive to date.

A story outline has already been written for a potential The Last of Us Part 3, but it’s not currently being developed, according to Naughty Dog’s co-president and creative director Neil Druckmann.

However, Naughty Dog is reportedly working on a PS5 remake of the original The Last of Us.
