The Last of Us has received 24 Emmy nominations

Only the final season of Succession is up for more awards at this year’s ceremony

The Last of Us has received 24 Emmy nominations

The Last of Us has received 24 nominations for the 75th Emmy Awards.

That’s just three short of the frontrunner for this year’s ceremony, fellow HBO show Succession, which is up for 27 awards for its fourth and final season, having previously won 13 Emmys.

The Last of Us comes in ahead of The White Lotus, which received 23 nominations, and Ted Lasso, which is up for 21 prizes.

Nominations for The Last of Us include Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series (Pedro Pascal as Joel) and Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series (Bella Ramsey as Ellie).

Among the nominations it received in the Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series category were Murray Bartlett as Frank and Nick Offerman as Bill in the well received third episode of Season 1, Long, Long Time.

The Emmy Awards is scheduled to take place on September 18, 2023.

The Last of Us is produced and written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann, who also co-wrote and directed the game series on which it’s based.

Over the course of nine episodes, the show’s debut season covered the events of The Last of Us, which was released at the tail end of the PS3 generation in 2013, and its downloadable expansion The Last of Us: Left Behind, which arrived the following year.

It has been a critical and commercial success, becoming one of HBO’s most streamed shows of all time.

HBO announced that The Last of Us had been renewed for a second season just two and a half weeks into the first season’s run, which concluded in March.

Fans may have to wait a couple of years to find out what happens in Season 2, Ramsey suggested during an interview that same month.

Mazin and Druckmann have seemingly confirmed their intention to make a third season too, by suggesting that Season 2 won’t be able to cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part 2, which was released for PS4 in 2020.
