Microsoft announced its first limited edition Xbox Series X console on Wednesday and it’s already widely sold out in the US and being listed by resellers.

The Xbox Series X Halo Infinite Limited Edition bundle will launch on November 15 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original Halo’s release.

Priced at $549.99 / £479.99, the console’s design was inspired by the Halo universe and it’s wrapped with dark metallic paneling with an iridium gold accent.

It also comes with a downloadable copy of Halo Infinite, which will be redeemable when the game is released on December 8.

The Halo Xbox Series X is already sold out and being resold by scalpers.

Xbox’s US arm opened pre-orders on Wednesday and recommends purchasing from one of four places, none of which are currently listing the console as available.

The Microsoft Store is “out of stock,” Best Buy lists the product as “coming soon,” Target is “sold out,” and Walmart says “this item is unavailable or on backorder.”

The console doesn’t appear to be available to pre-order in the UK yet, but we’ve asked Microsoft for details on its planned availability.

UPDATE: One VGC reader said they managed to pre-order the console from Microsoft’s UK store on Wednesday, although it’s not currently available. The console was also briefly in stock at UK retailer Game on Thursday afternoon.

ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: Xbox Series X and PS5 have been extremely hard to come by since November 2020’s launches, with most restocks selling out quickly and re-seller groups criticised for exacerbating the shortages.

Following Wednesday’s announcement, scalpers looking to cash in on demand for the Xbox Series X Halo console have started listing the product on eBay with confirmation of pre-orders placed in the US and Australia.

A search for ‘Xbox Series X Halo Infinite limited edition console’ on eBay returned over 50 results on Thursday morning, all of which were being offered for above the product’s RRP.

At the time of publishing, most of the eBay listing are for around $1,000 – nearly double the Halo console’s RRP – and the highest priced listing stands at $2,550 after attracting 10 bids.

We’ve asked Microsoft it has any comment regarding scalping and if it can give us an indication of how many Xbox Series X Halo consoles it’s planning to produce.

Microsoft recently launched a pilot programme enabling selected users to reserve Xbox Series X/S consoles for purchase.

The scheme’s launch followed comments from Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who said last November that he believed current console pre-order models were outdated and should be improved.

Microsoft is also releasing a limited edition Xbox Elite Series 2 controller alongside the Halo Xbox Series X. Inspired by Master Chief’s armour, with a “battle-worn, matte metallic green” finish and an iridium gold D-pad, it costs $199.99 / £179.99.
