The general sale of PS5 console covers has seemingly been delayed

Sony appears to have delayed the general sale of its PlayStation 5 ‘console covers’.

The coloured faceplates, which allow players to change the appearance of their PS5 console, are currently only available to buy from Sony’s PlayStation Direct store.

However, Sony had previously announced that the first two covers, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red, would be sold in other stores starting today.

This no longer appears to be the case, with both the US and UK PlayStation Direct stores updating their product information to suggest that other retailers now won’t be selling them until March.

Archived versions of the store show that the UK store previously said “on general release from 18th February” in listings for the black and red covers. That information has now changed to “on general release from 2nd March”.

The US appears to be getting it even later. The archived version of the US PlayStation Direct store previously stated: “Available from us now, available 2/18 elsewhere.” Now it reads: “Available from us now, available 3/31 elsewhere.”

The delay means players can still only buy the console covers directly from PlayStation. They aren’t currently listed for pre-order on Amazon UK, Amazon US, Game or Gamestop.

Sony previously said it also plans to release Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple console covers during the first half of 2022.
